The Story Behind the Song

[op_liveeditor_element data-style=””][text_block style=”style_1.png” align=”left” top_margin=”5″]This song was a staple in our earliest shows, but never made it to an album. After all, it is extremely hard to write anything that isn’t sunny and happy in an environment where we saw rain maybe 4 times in a year.

This is a song about overcoming fear. A fear of commitment, a fear of putting yourself out there, and wearing your heart on your sleeve. After the first few times I had my heart broken, I starting holding certain things back. In my own naive way, I started believing that if I never said “I love you” in a relationship, and for some reason it didn’t work out, then it wouldn’t hurt as much. Of course if one person says it, and those feelings aren’t returned, it can lead to some pretty awkward and uncomfortable feelings. Although I’m well aware of how ridiculous this defense mechanism is, in some ways I still use it today. Fear can be a funny thing. You can go skydiving, bungee-jumping, cage-diving with sharks…but when it comes to telling someone how much you care about them for the first time, three little words can be terrifying.[/text_block][/op_liveeditor_element]
