The Story Behind the Song
[/op_liveeditor_element]
[op_liveeditor_element data-style=””][text_block style=”style_1.png” align=”left” top_margin=”5″]Everyone experiences a breakup at one point or another.  While having a relationship end is never an easy thing, being the one who gets dumped just makes it that much worse.  Often, a person is overcome with feelings of bitterness and resentment.  If there is cheating involved, even more questions and feelings surface.  But once the confusion and hurt have subsided, and you’ve come to terms with how you’ve been treated, or mistreated, the deep, dark, ego-driven side of your personality just wants to tell the other person how they made you feel.  In this song, there is an extra karmic element involved, where the main character actually wants the same pain, anger and emotional turmoil to one day happen to the one who dumped him.  It is the musical equivalent of seeing your ex, and giving them the finger, as if to say “you think you’re so clever, but I knew you were cheating.  I did everything for you, and you totally took me for granted.  Now let’s see how great your life is without me.”[/text_block][/op_liveeditor_element]

[op_liveeditor_element][text_block]

I’ve seen the writing on the wall
I’ve read the verdict in your eyes
The way you whisper on the phone, when you think you’re all alone
Says that you’ve been telling lies

I bet you thought I’d never know
I’m sure you guessed I’d be surprised
That’s why you tried to play it cool, tired to play me like a fool
But I can read between the lines

You know I never tried to bring you down
When times were tough I hung around
But now this heart you took for granted
Is finally leaving town

And when I’m gone, tell me how will you make it alone?
When you find that you’re on your own
And there ain’t no one home you can lean on baby
When I’m gone, tell me who will be turning you on?
You’ll be lonely before too long…When I’m gone

I should have listened to my friends
I could have saved myself the pain
They told me time and time again, you would hurt me in the end
So I guess that I‘m to blame

Never thought I’d ever have to feel this way
So broken down and so betrayed
But I know the pain you caused me
Will all come back to you someday

And when I’m gone, tell me how will you make it alone?
When you find that you’re on your own
And there ain’t no one home you can lean on baby
When I’m gone, tell me who will be turning you on?
You’ll be lonely before too long…When I’m gone

Don’t you know I never tried to bring you down
When times were tough I hung around
But now this heart you took for granted
Is finally leaving town

And when I’m gone, tell me how will you make it alone?
When you find that you’re on your own
And there ain’t no one home you can lean on baby
When I’m gone, tell me who will be turning you on?
You’ll be lonely before too long…When I’m gone

You’ll be lonely before too long…When I’m gone
